We are quite fortunate here in Australia in that we get quite a lot of sunshine all year round and even when winter comes around in July, we always see the sun shining most days. Not only does it keep us warm but it also provides us with essential vitamin D that our medical practitioners keep telling us that we need more of. This isn’t an invitation however to spend too much time in the sun because the harmful UV rays can damage your skin and can cause serious illness as well.
This is why you need to do all that you can to protect yourself from the moment that you leave your house early in the morning until you return later in the evening. One of the first things that you need to invest in are windscreen sunshades to help keep your vehicle cooler when you exit but also to protect the inside of the car as well. Too much sun can cause fading on the dash, the seats and on the carpets. This is one way to protect your vehicle but the following are some ways to protect yourself.
- Keep out of the sun – If you are the type of person who works outside a lot then if there is a tree nearby, that is where you should stand instead of in the open subjecting yourself to harmful UV rays. Always take the opportunity to step out of direct sunshine whenever you can and this is especially true when you and the family head off to the local beach. It is detrimental to your skin and to your health to spend hours in direct sunshine. Don’t forget health insurance when holidaying abroad.
- Protect your head, neck & ears – These parts of your body are very prone to sunburn and it can be incredibly painful to have these areas burnt by the sun. This is why it makes perfect sense to invest in a quality hat for your head. This is certainly not an opportunity to buy a new baseball cap because this doesn’t cover your ears or your neck. It’s time for a wide-brimmed hat that protects all of the areas specified above.
- Protect your eyes & eyesight – Many people try to cut corners when it comes to buying a pair of sunglasses and they always go for the cheaper option. It seems that they only want to look cool and nothing else. In order to be able to protect your eyes and your eyesight as well as the area around your eyes, you need to spend money on quality sunglasses with proper UV protection. Take your time and choose wisely so that you look both cool and you are protecting yourself.
These are just three ways to protect yourself but also think about your car and about your home as well. If the sun is shining on your property, it can fade your furniture and carpets.
